A student city with expansive ambitions
Almost 1 in 5 of the citizens of Aarhus are students. Every day, 52,000 students from Denmark and abroad immerse themselves in new knowledge. As a result, you are sure to encounter students all over the city: in study halls, parks and sports stadiums, taking internships, enjoying the nightlife and running on trails through the woods. Aarhus is a young city and as a student you become a part of the city's DNA.
While the city is small enough that you can travel from one side to the other quickly and easily, it is still packed with a whole world of opportunities. This is a huge benefit for you as a student when you need to arrange an internship or find a student job. The local authority works with the education institutions and the business community in the city to organize interesting internships for everyone – including anyone looking to build up an international network and to work across urban zones and national borders. Studies show that 9 out of 10 students would recommend Aarhus as a student city.
Aarhus is a safe city, it is easy for you to get around by bike, and there is good access to parks, forest and the beach. There are plenty of cultural and social activities, and not least a good nightlife. Besides this, the city also offers a young, diverse and creative environment, which is highly attractive to other students as well.
Aarhus University is among the 100 top universities in the world, and this is just one of the numerous exciting places where students from all parts of the globe meet up every day to improve their competencies. Other examples are VIA University College, Aarhus School of Architecture, Business Academy Aarhus, the Danish School of Media and Journalism, Business Academy Aarhus and the Royal Academy of Music. There are more than 6,000 international students in the city, and many of the study programmes are taught in English. The city simply buzzes with life and ambition – and the positivity is infectious. So it is only natural to look to Aarhus when thinking about where to start your career dreams.
What the students say
The city's educational institutions, together with the Municipality of Aarhus conducted a reputation survey of Aarhus as a university city among both current and prospective students.
Quotes from the survey
"The best thing about Aarhus is the wealth of opportunities that are within just a 10-minute bike ride from the university. There is almost always something new to experience. I can both enjoy my free time in nature by jumping on the bike and experience the Brabrand path and Moesgaard, or I can visit cultural institutions till I drop and I would still be missing a few. All in all, there are so many opportunities to enrich your student time both on your own and / or with friends and family that you almost do not know where to start."
Caroline Lundqvist, graduate student in Digital Design, University of Aarhus.
"The best thing about studying in Aarhus are all the opportunities for social events through your studies. Here I get the opportunity to embrace Aarhus through diversity, culture and community."
Trine Holm Sorensen, Bachelor in Social Education at VIA University College.
